This is a realistic version of Jenna, from the Golden Sun games
I'm in a portrait mood, I really want to improve at drawing faces ! I'm really happy with this one, I think the face is one of the most realistic I've ever drawn, and without too much struggle with the anatomy.
I just don't like the hair that much. I feel like my technique is very long and very painful for a result that could have been just as good with fewer strokes. I feel like I should suggest more and draw less explicit strands.
To do : more hair study and clothes study, so that I could be able to render the clothes more than that ! And also work on my reports and exams for the semester, huh, I'm drawing too much ><
Wow! She is beautiful! I love the style and texture of your portraits! The hair is beautiful too! I can tell you put a lot of work into it. And it looks so soft!
To me the hair looks gorgeous and incredibly realistic I would say, even more so than the face. Hair has that sort of texture when it's been recently washed, so that looks great. Great job with this one.
do you use a formiliar face and then draw "the character" around it? or do you draw it from the ground up, figuring out what fits the character the most? ;w;
To be honest, when I draw a face, I mainly try to have something that looks good, that has good proportions and is realistic and so on. I don't have yet the level to say "Hmm well I'll try to have a thin nose, and a round face, with a pointy chin", no, when the nose seems okay, I'll stop here Therefore when I draw from imagination, I'm afraid I'll fall in some kind of "same face syndrome". I'll usually end by drawing the same kind of mouth and nose
I'm trying to do some photo studies in parallel so that I'll be used to draw different types of faces, but I'm still learning a lot about this. Moreover, when I'm turning anime/manga style characters into realistic paintings like this, since they have rather similar faces initially, I'll mainly rely on the hairstyle for them to be recognizable
I can imagine that you stick with what's comfortable indeed... that if one particular movement works good for you, that you maintain that one.. but just keep practicing ^^ I'm sure you'll get there =3
uhuh, also because indeed the faces of anime characters are similar, yet it is the hair and the eyes that make them stand out (in most cases) it's indeed challenging to give them some facial atributes that you wouldnt normaly see in the series themselves, but would in real life..
just keep doing what you're doing, I think it looks great! ^^
I'd rather save stuff in my message gallery for a long time, and eventually give good and honest critique, rather than letting all that beautifull art go unrewarded ;w;
