A quick and relaxing illustration I made to clean my head between two more ambitious paintings :)
It was really fun to dig into my own photos from Japan for references :D

J'aime beaucoup ce dessin, sa beauté épurée correspond bien à l'image que je me fais du Japon traditionnel. Enfin, je suppose qu'il y a autant de japonaises préparant le thé en kimono que de français à béret et baguette, mais j'apprécie beaucoup l'atmosphère de douceur et de sérénité que tu parviens à créer.

En fait pour avoir vécu 2 ans au Japon, je dirais qu'il y en a quand même :)
Les kimono traditionnels restent des tenues auxquelles les Japonais sont très attachés et ils les portent très souvent lors d'un certain nombre d’événements. Bien sûr ils sont portés lors des mariages par exemple, mais aussi lors des cérémonies de remises de diplômes (surtout les filles pour le coup, les hommes étaient plutôt en costume "occidental"), ou encore pour fêter le Nouvel An. J'en ai aussi vu pas mal se recueillir ainsi vêtus sous les cerisiers pour Hanami.

Quant à la cérémonie du thé, il y a quand même pas mal d'endroits dans lesquels elle reste pratiquée (et enseignée), elle est limite érigée au rang d'art. Pour le coup c'est forcément en kimono d'ailleurs, sinon ça ne se fait pas. Mais elle fait moins partie de la vie courante et est plus une tradition que l'on a préservée. Par contre les Japonais boivent du thé tout le temps. Mais vraiment =p

Les Japonais tiennent globalement beaucoup à leur culture et à leurs traditions et ne manquent jamais une occasion de les célébrer ou de les mettre en valeur, c'est assez remarquable :)

Ah, merci pour ces précisions :-) Je suis bien contente que les japonais aient la gentillesse de correspondre à peu près à l'image que je me fais d'eux. Et puis, je comprends les filles : les kimono, c'est magnifique (tant qu'ils ne sont pas trop chargés en décorations ; mais ça, c'est une question de goûts).

Bon sang ces arbres ! Bon sang ces feuilles ! BON SANG CE KIMONO ! C'est très beau. La couleur verte est très apaisante, et s'accorde bien avec le jaune. J'aime beaucoup les nuances que tu as fait avec ces couleurs. Et puis la salle vide et le décor assez discret illustre un silence bien présent dans le dessin.

C'est marrant parce que j'ai deux sentiments quand je regarde le personnage. On voit à la fois le geste doux, qui s'accorde avec l'ambiance générale, du coup je me dis "ce personnage est détendu". Puis je vois le sourcil froncé et j'ai l'impression que la personne (une femme je dirais...) fait la tronche. x)

Ah... Je veux du thé maintenant...

Merci, contente que ça te plaise ! Effectivement, la simplicité du décor est là pour renforcer le côté solennel et serein de la cérémonie, et puis pour rappeler un peu le côté "minimaliste" de certaines estampes japonaises :)
Pour le "sourcil froncé" de la jeune femme, c'est plutôt une erreur de ma part... Le sourcil s'arrête assez tôt en fait, mais j'ai fait l'ombre de l'arcade sourcilière un peu trop sombre. Elle donne effectivement l'impression d'être le prolongement du sourcil. Je ferai plus attention à ce genre de soucis la prochaine fois !

Yes, I wanted to try something a bit more graphical, different from what I use to do. I thought it would suit the setting, given the fact that Japanese culture itself has a "minimalist" aspect :)

I don't travel that much ^^
I've had the chance a couple of years ago to take part in an exchange program between my school and a Japanese university, which allowed me to live two years in Japan.
Apart from that, I don't travel a lot ! I do like to go hiking in nature, but I usually stay rather close to where I live :)

I love this! very serene. your composition placement is awesome. I love how everything is pointing towards the focal point.  its very welcoming. I read it like an invitation to sit inside the painting for a genuine cup of tea..

It's supposed to be Japanese. To be precise, it is inspired by a temple I visited there which features a similar round window. The temple is named the Meigetsuin and is located in Kamakura. If you google it you'll surely recognise the inspiration for the setting :)
